The CPA recognizes that our insurance program is an essential benefit we offer to our members. Our unique for-member by-member insurance program has been specifically designed to meet the needs of physiotherapists, physiotherapist assistants, and physical rehabilitation specialists. In partnership with BMS Canada Risk Services Ltd., our insurance broker, we have offered cost-effective and evidence-based risk management services for members for nearly a decade.
With that said, COVID-19 represents an unprecedented challenge to the profession on a number of fronts and insurance is no different. We hear our business owner members’ concerns about the application of business interruption insurance coverage to the current reality. We are working directly with BMS Canada Risk Services Ltd. to ensure that they are advocating for the needs of our members with our insurer, Novex. On April 20, BMS provided our members with an update with further details on:
a) the role of the insurance broker,
b) business interruption insurance, and
c) the work they are undertaking to advocate on our members’ behalf.
In addition to our work with BMS, the CPA has undertaken a third-party legal review of the business interruption policy and what it means for our members. This work is ongoing with an expert legal team and they will prepare a position for the CPA. We will share an update on this third-party legal review when it becomes available, and we thank our membership for their patience and understanding as we continue this work.
