In an effort to support our members who are presently excluded from the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS), the CPA has responded to the federal government’s consultation to voice the concerns we have heard from members since the program started on April 1, 2020. The CPA is advocating that the government change the eligibility criteria of the CEWS program to include contract service providers. Because CEWS does not consider contractors and sub-contractors as eligible employees under the program, the applicability of the program to physiotherapy clinics/businesses who operate under this model is limited. Changing the eligibility criteria of the CEWS program to include contract service providers would help improve access to the program for physiotherapy clinics and businesses and provide them with much-needed financial support during this difficult time.
The consultation is open online until June 5, 2020. Members still have time to respond to the consultation and share concerns here.
