In 2014, the federal Minister of Health struck a time-limited Advisory Panel on Health Care Innovation to explore domestic and international examples of healthcare innovation that might support the federal leadership in health system reform. The role of the Panel was to:

  • Identify the five most promising areas of innovation in Canada and internationally that have the potential to sustainably reduce growth in health spending while leading to improvements in the quality and accessibility of care
  • Recommend the five ways the federal government could support innovation in the areas identified above.

The Panel accepted written submission from the public and health system stakeholders, but also led a series of public consultations, including one on December 8, 2014 in Ottawa with national healthcare stakeholders. Kate Rexe, Manager of Policy and Government Relations attended on behalf of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
