Pourquoi avez-vous particip\u00e9 au programme?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour obtenir le titre, afin d\u2019ajouter de la cr\u00e9dibilit\u00e9 \u00e0 la profession dans son ensemble et de l\u2019utiliser pour entra\u00eener des changements positifs dans la profession quant \u00e0 son influence, aux relations interprofessionnelles et aux aspects m\u00e9dicol\u00e9gaux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

O\u00f9 esp\u00e9rez-vous voir la profession dans 25 ans?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Je souhaite que notre pratique soit beaucoup plus autonome (injections, demande d\u2019imagerie diagnostique), obtienne un plus grand respect du public et soit plus int\u00e9gr\u00e9e dans une pratique fond\u00e9e sur les donn\u00e9es probantes gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un solide effectif de chercheurs, compos\u00e9 principalement de physioth\u00e9rapeutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selon vous, quel impact aura la sp\u00e9cialisation dans votre domaine?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019am\u00e9lioration du mentorat et de meilleures ressources pour les jeunes dipl\u00f4m\u00e9s. Davantage de clients envoy\u00e9s vers les physioth\u00e9rapeutes, et davantage de travail m\u00e9dicol\u00e9gal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quelle est la valeur de la sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9 pour les candidats?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

C\u2019est un processus d\u2019introspection sur la pratique professionnelle, ce qui est toujours une bonne chose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avez-vous fait appel \u00e0 votre r\u00e9seau de sp\u00e9cialistes, et comment?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Je travaille quotidiennement avec quelques sp\u00e9cialistes en orthop\u00e9die.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quels facteurs importants faut-il prendre en compte lorsqu\u2019on souhaite faire une sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9 clinique?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il ne faut pas sous-estimer ses connaissances, son exp\u00e9rience et ses comp\u00e9tences cliniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quelles comp\u00e9tences avez-vous acquises ou am\u00e9lior\u00e9es pendant le processus de sp\u00e9cialisation?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

La capacit\u00e9 de structurer un traitement dans un cas difficile, en me fondant sur de solides donn\u00e9es probantes et sur la recherche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quel conseil donneriez-vous aux candidats qui s\u2019engagent dans le processus de sp\u00e9cialisation?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

C\u2019est un processus satisfaisant, mais intensif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biographie<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Michael Westaway est physioth\u00e9rapeute en orthop\u00e9die; il exerce en cabinet priv\u00e9 depuis 27 ans. Il a un baccalaur\u00e9at de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Toronto (B. Sc., 1984) et un baccalaur\u00e9at en physioth\u00e9rapie de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 McMaster (1987), une ma\u00eetrise de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Calgary (1993) et un doctorat en sciences (D. Sc., Universit\u00e9 Andrew\u2019s, 2005). Il d\u00e9tient un permis d\u2019exercer l\u2019acupuncture et une certification en technique de rel\u00e2chement actif. Il est fellow de la Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy (CAMT) et il a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sident de la Canadian Orthopractic Manual Therapy Association et de la division orthop\u00e9die de l\u2019ACP. Il enseigne \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 McMaster et a \u00e9t\u00e9 enseignant clinicien \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de l\u2019Alberta. Il d\u00e9tient une directive m\u00e9dicale qui lui permet de r\u00e9aliser des injections aux points de d\u00e9clenchement myofasciaux et des traitements de proloth\u00e9rapie. Le Dr Westaway participe toujours activement \u00e0 la recherche clinique et a publi\u00e9 divers articles revus par des pairs portant sur la mesure des r\u00e9sultats et l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 du traitement de la colonne cervicale, ainsi que sur la biom\u00e9canique cervicale. Il exerce actuellement au Caleo Health Center (seulement pour l\u2019\u00e9valuation des patients souffrant de douleur vert\u00e9brale), \u00e0 la clinique Village Square Sport Physiotherapy et \u00e0 la clinique de Springborough. Il a le titre de sp\u00e9cialiste en orthop\u00e9die de l\u2019Association canadienne de physioth\u00e9rapie.
