Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Arthritis Care (ACPAC) Clinician

The Role:
As an ACPAC Clinician, you are an independent practitioner who is responsible for the provision of evidence-based, assessment and management for individuals with arthritis. Working virtually and in-person, within a variety of community settings, you are an independent care provider who is responsible for the provision of advanced assessment, screening1, triage2, and rehabilitation of people with arthritis. Reporting to the Senior Director, Clinical Impact and Performance, you will operate with a high level of accountability, in an interprofessional team environment and within a broad scope of practice.
ACPAC Training Requirement: You will be required to participate in a 10-month long ACPAC training program, if you do not already have this designation, with the costs of this program covered by Arthritis Society Canada and designated government funding.

Our AREP Team:
The Arthritis Rehabilitation and Education Program (AREP) provides a range of treatment and education services for adults and children with arthritis. Services are free, available in most regions in Ontario, and are funded by the Ontario Government for people with an Ontario Health Card and a confirmed diagnosis of arthritis. Our team of specially trained physiotherapists, occupational therapists and social work professionals will provide people with arthritis with the care, strategies, guidance and education they need to better manage their arthritis and live well using a chronic disease self -management model.
Key Accountabilities:
As an ACPAC Clinician, you will:
- Possess all the skills and attributes outlined in the job description for Arthritis Society Canada Clinicians (Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists).
- Facilitate the delivery of coordinated and efficient care in the community through strategic partnerships.
- Provide care with a high level of accountability and a broad scope of practice in the community, frequently seeing clients without a confirmed diagnosis or with undifferentiated arthritis and may work under medical directives to enhance access to care for people with arthritis.
- Collaborate in AREP’s partnership work with the Ontario Rheumatology Association’s quality project on supporting arthritis access in remote and underserved areas of Ontario’s north.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
- A post-secondary education in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy and membership in good standing of the relevant regulatory College of Ontario with at least five (5) years of clinical experience in musculoskeletal care.
- Advanced Clinician Practitioner in Arthritis Care (ACPAC) post-graduate certificate from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine or equivalent completed, (If not completed, is eligible for and committed to completing the next ACPAC course scheduled and will be supported to attend).
- Experience providing rehabilitation and education programming, both virtually and in-person, ideally for people with arthritis and their families required. Working knowledge of exercise instruction, splinting and community resources necessary.
- Experience working with people with chronic, and in a progressive interprofessional setting, preferred.
- Strong computer skills, with proficiency using database programs and Microsoft Office.
Working Conditions:
- This position is designated to our Sudbury office and various off-site clinics in a hybrid model. The exact days you are required to work from these locations will be determined by your supervisor.
- This role will involve travel within the Greater Sudbury region. As such, regular access to a motor vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to travel within the Greater Sudbury Region is essential.
- Sufficient internet access at home is essential, as is an appropriate and confidential space to effectively deliver virtual care.

1Screening: A strategy used in a population to identify an unrecognised disease in individuals without signs or symptoms. This can include individuals with pre-symptomatic or unrecognised symptomatic disease. As such, screening tests are somewhat unique in that they are performed on persons apparently in good health.
2Triage: The process of determining the priority of patients’ treatments based on the severity of their condition. This rations patient treatment efficiently when resources are insufficient for all to be treated immediately.
