The Department of Physical Therapy at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track).

This position is located within a healthcare facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

The Department is currently comprised of 19 full-time faculty members, including one Endowed Chair and 4 Canada Research Chairs, over 152 clinical faculty and 24 support staff.  There are 220 professional entry-level Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) students, over 60 graduate students, and 10 postdoctoral research fellows. The Department has a strong research culture with approximately $5 million of Primary Investigator grant funding in 2020-21.  Physical Therapy faculty members have research affiliations with hospital-based institutes including Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (www.vchri.ca), Providence Health Care Research Institute (www.providenceresearch.ca), university-based centres and institutes (www.ubc.ca/directories/institutescentres.html), as well as many other collaborative opportunities.

This position will be based at the UBC Master of Physical Therapy – Fraser Valley site in Surrey, BC. The site will provide a collaborative environment with other UBC colleagues from the Department of Physical Therapy and Occupational Sciences and Occupational Therapy.

Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Physical Therapy, the successful candidate is expected to develop an independent research program that has the potential to capitalize on being based within Fraser Health (https://www.fraserhealth.ca/), to form strong collaborations with other scientists, clinical faculty, and the community to advance the mission of the Department to provide “an outstanding learning environment and leads innovative research to advance physical therapy practice globally”.

The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in a field relevant to physical therapy. Preference will be given to applicants eligible to hold licensure as a Physical Therapist in Canada, and whose research and teaching are well aligned with and relevant to UBC and/or hospital research centres and MPT curriculum. Preference will be given to applicants with postdoctoral experience.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated research track record, demonstrated ability in scholarly activity and have demonstrated evidence of ability in teaching as the position will be expected to participate in graduate, and postgraduate teaching activities of the Department and within the MPT program. The successful candidate will provide supervision, mentorship and training to graduate, and postgraduate learners and academic service contributions. The incumbent will also be expected to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community.
