Speaker: Anik Goulet - Post-Surgical Rehabilitation in Afghanistan: A Physiotherapist's Experience

Anik Goulet B.Sc.PT. M. Ed., McGill University and Villa Medica Rehabilitation Centre, Ms. Goulet's life changing adventure began in 2010 in Haiti where she worked a s a Physiotherapist. This led to working in Afghanistan as a Physiotherapy Supervisor, to Kenya as a Technical Advisor, back to Haiti as a Rehabilitation Coordinator and to Lebanon/Jordan to work as a Technical Unit Coordinator within the Syrian crisis. The desire to continue contributing to the global health sector in her home country has led her to starting a PhD at McGill's School of Physical and Occupational Therapy in September 2016.

Ms. Goulet will present an overview of rehabilitation in global health and describe rehabilitation services in Afghanistan. She will share her experience including challenges and lessons learnt working as a Physiotherapy Supervisor working at the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) trauma hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan. To conclude Ms. Goulet will engage the audience in a discussion about working in rehabilitation in global health settings.
