By 2036, more than 62% of health care spending will be on those over the age of 65. Physiotherapists, Physical Rehabilitation Therapists and Physiotherapist Assistants have an opportunity to instill good habits for healthy aging with their clients and patients. By promoting health and wellness, we can prevent illness and injury rather than focus solely on management of chronic disease.
Presentations will be related to one of the following four streams:
Advocacy and Leadership
Focuses on the opportunities for advocacy and leadership within the profession of physiotherapy in the realm of healthy aging.
Best practices in Physiotherapy that promote healthy aging
focuses on best practice in physiotherapy clinical skills that support healthy aging in the realms of neurological, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal rehabilitation, including specialty areas of practice such as women’s health and oncology, across all settings of care in which physiotherapists practice.
Focuses on highlighting innovative policies, models of care, products, technologies and interventions that support healthy aging.
Prevention and Health Promotion
Focuses on highlighting key areas in primary prevention, secondary prevention and health promotion in healthy aging.
This Forum will provide opportunities for clinicians, managers, clinic owners and educators to learn with and from each other. Advocacy training will be provided to delegates; you will leave PEI with tools and plans to be able to advocate for your patients with decision-makers and insurance companies. There will also be a Think Tank during which we will craft a message to the Federal Minister of Seniors on behalf of the profession. You will be able to share your ideas while networking with colleagues from across the country.
And finally, who doesn’t want to visit beautiful PEI in June? You might even want to book a family vacation and stay on the island after the Forum. (Some of us are planning for this already…)
