The Department of Physical Therapy, in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the field of Critical Disability and Health Equity Studies. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1, 2023, or shortly thereafter.
The successful candidate will have a focus on Critical Disability and Health Equity research and scholarship and will contribute to teaching the socio-political, cultural and ethical (SPEC) dimensions of physical therapy and rehabilitation within the Department.
The successful candidate must have earned a PhD in Critical Disability Studies, Equity Studies or other critical social science field in a related area (for example: critical race, Indigenous studies, critical rehabilitation science, anthropology, or health sociology). Candidates with strong training/experience in community-based research and equity/anti-oppression work are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of one year additional experience in the critical disability or health equity field (e.g., post-doctoral fellowship, research, scholarship, or work experience). We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and pursue an innovative, independent and competitively funded program of research.
The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of excellence in research, innovative scholarship and teaching. Candidates are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment demonstrated through the application materials.
