The Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) is thrilled to congratulate Dr. Michel Landry on his election as President of World Physiotherapy. Dr. Landry is a celebrated physiotherapist who has held leadership roles within the profession for three decades, including as a past President of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. Over the course of his longstanding career, he has worked with physiotherapy associations around the world, global health organizations, entrepreneurial ventures, private practices, and academic institutions.

We are delighted to have a Canadian, a former CPA president, and a leader of Dr. Landry’s stature at the helm of the international organization representing physiotherapy.

Dr. Landry will begin his four-year term as President on June 4, 2023. We look forward to working with him to advance the physiotherapy profession within Canada and around the world.

About Dr. Michel D. Landry

Dr. Landry is currently a Professor at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (Norway). Prior to this, he was the Department Chair and Vice Dean for Global Health at Virginia Commonwealth University, and Division Chief of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Division at Duke University. His teaching and educational innovations have focused on global health, health system strengthening, and rehabilitation health service and policy. 

Dr. Landry has held many leadership positions across his career span, including as a past President of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, and with physiotherapy associations around the world, global health organizations, entrepreneurial ventures, private practices, and academic institutions. 

In 2015, Dr. Landry was the recipient of the International Service Award from the World Confederation for Physical Therapy. In 2020, he was the recipient of the CPA’s highest honour, the Enid Graham Memorial Lecture Award.
