Holiday Greetings From SHD!
As I reflect on the past year and the ways that we have had the opportunity to draw attention to the essential role of physiotherapists in improving the lives of older adults, I am so excited for the work that the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and the Seniors Health Division have accomplished! In this past year we have:
Sincerely, Gabrielle Sadler, Chair on behalf of the Seniors Health Division Executive
- Provided consultation to the CPA on their federal government pre-budget submission to include meeting the needs of our aging population Provided consultation on the national Long-Term Care Standards and Safe Long-Term Care Act
- Held two meetings with the Minister of Seniors office and submitted a briefing note advocating for the role of physiotherapists with older adults
- Met with the National Seniors Council and submitted a briefing note advocating for a physiotherapist seat on the council
- Provided many knowledge translation opportunities to our members, including engaging town hall discussions and educational webinars
We are so excited for what 2024 will bring! Wishing you and yours a happy holiday season and all the best for the New Year!

SHD Observes National Seniors Day
October 1, 2023 – On #NationalSeniorsDay, we join Canadians in celebrating older adults, with gratitude for their accomplishments and contributions to the diverse tapestry of Canada’s culture. Be it in the workplace, our communities or within our homes, this invaluable group continues to shape and guide all generations of Canadians.
Physiotherapy professionals work every day with older persons, helping them maximize their recovery, preventing injury at the source, managing their chronic pain and supporting their ability to age in place. We are proud to support a profession that is helping older Canadians live healthier, more mobile and active lives.
