BCI is an innovative, physician-led, performance medicine program founded on over two decades of research and clinical experience. We use cutting-edge technology and advanced techniques to objectively assess brain function and the associated neurological and musculoskeletal systems commonly impacted by concussion and other sport related injuries. Our multi-disciplinary healthcare professionals are leaders in their respective fields serving Canadian Olympic, National, Provincial and several elite community sport associations (i.e., sport medicine physicians, physiotherapists, athletic therapists, exercise physiologists, vestibular therapists, vision therapists, kinesiologists, neuro-optometrists, registered sport psychologist, sport dietitians, sport scientists, experienced clinical technicians). We are also a proud member of the NHL-NHLPA second medical opinion list.

BCI operates out of a 3,500 square-foot state-of-the-art Performance Medicine & Rehabilitation Clinic at WinSport’s Markin MacPhail Centre. WinSport is home to a world-class halfpipe, FIS-sanctioned slopestyle course and terrain park, western Canada’s largest tube park, mountain bike trails, 4 ice rinks, and two gym facilities providing opportunities for both high-performance athletes and the larger public sporting community.

BCI’s mission is to bring innovative high-performance sport concussion and musculoskeletal assessment, management and prevention strategies to the community utilizing evidence-informed, solution-driven practices. Our program fosters a precision medicine paradigm tailoring medical decisions and management strategies to the unique characteristics of each athlete. It facilitates targeted to those who will benefit, sparing further time, expense, unnecessary investigations, and rehabilitation strategies therapeutic interventions applied for those who will not.

Applied Clinical Research

BCI’s high-performance sport concussion clinical program is predicated on data-driven outcome measures. Over the past two decades our team has been prospectively assessing acute sport-related concussion biomarkers, innovative neuroimaging, primary and secondary prevention strategies, as well as the clinical usefulness of cutting-edge robotic technology to objectively and precisely assess sensory, motor, and cognitive function, visual gaze (oculomotor control) and balance (postural stability) with support from Canadian Sport Institute Calgary, Own the Podium, Mitacs, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Alberta Innovates-Health Solutions, Hotchkiss Brain Institute, Department of Clinical Neurosciences (University of Calgary), Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM) and generous philanthropic donations. Our team has also been characterizing autonomic nervous system function following a concussion and its response to cognitive and exercise challenges through return to health and performance.

BCI is seeking an experienced part-time Vestibular Therapist interested in joining our high-performance team working in a spirited and collaborative inter-disciplinary environment.

Qualifications / Requirements:

• certified physical therapist licensed to practice in Alberta who has completed several in-person post- professional courses or equivalent mentorship training in vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT).

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

Practitioners who have passed at least one competency-certified formal exam (e.g., Emory/APTA, Pittsburgh/APTA and AIB courses or other equivalent post-professional coursework with formal exams

Additional training and certification in the assessment, management and clinical reasoning of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) / concussion patients

Post-graduate training and certification in advanced vestibular assessment and management
experience working in the high-performance sport system within a multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals

Sport concussion clinical research interests.
