Digital Health and Innovation in Physical Therapy.

Do you want to learn about digital health in physical therapy? Do you have innovative ideas that you want to make a reality? Do you want to acquire skills and knowledge to provide effective video physical therapy to your patients?

If so, then this course is for you!

This 2 day in-person course offers physical therapists with the opportunity to learn, explore and critically appraise digital health technology and artificial intelligence as it relates to physical therapy practice. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded physical therapists to innovate and bring your ideas to life. This course offers lecture style learning and group discussions along with collaborative small group learning to propose your own ideas to your peers and the course instructor and receive feedback and advice. Following the course, you will meet 1-on-1 with the course instructor to discuss the next steps in implementing innovation into your clinical practice.

About the instructor Nirtal Shah is a physical therapist who worked at the University of Toronto’s David L. MacIntosh Sport Medicine Clinic for 16 years. Nirtal is also involved with teaching and research at the University of Toronto. Nirtal teaches in the Faculty of Kinesiology, the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences all at the University of Toronto. Nirtal has been teaching for the past 10 years and has developed his own course related to digital health and innovation at the University of Toronto.

This course builds on Nirtal’s experience working in digital health for the past 15 years and his lifelong passion for innovation. Nirtal is also the Founder and CEO of Curovate, a health technology company that develops mobile apps for patients following a knee replacement, hip replacement and an anterior cruciate ligament surgery. Nirtal started with an idea for an app in 2016 which has evolved into a successful company that sells subscription-based apps on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Nirtal has also been providing virtual or video physical therapy for his patients for the past 5 years. Nirtal uses digital health technology to improve patient access, adherence and engagement throughout the rehabilitation process. Nirtal has helped to develop 4 mobile apps for rehabilitation, has received $97,000 in grants and awards related to his work in innovation and digital health and has a patient education blog that receives 20,000 unique views per month.

• Complete the process of innovation and make your idea a reality!
• Learn the key elements of a virtual physical therapy session by watching and discussing a virtual physical therapy session with a real patient.
• Discuss the future of physical therapy and digital health technology.
