The Faculty of Health at Dalhousie University is seeking a dynamic, team-oriented leader to be the next Director of its School of Physiotherapy/ Assistant Dean, Faculty of Health.

The Faculty of Health is home to one of the largest groupings of health professional programs at a Canadian University. The Faculty of Health is home to 11 masters and two doctoral level research-based programs. The School of Physiotherapy is one of 10 units within the Faculty. The School is committed to improving the well-being of individuals, families, communities and populations through its programming, collaborative research and strong community partnerships. The Masters in Physiotherapy program was granted full, 7-year accreditation in 2021. Updated and refreshed curriculum, strong growth in research activities, faculty renewal and a new strategic plan make this the ideal time for a new, innovative and performance driven Director/ Assistant Dean. The School is seeking a visionary leader with an excellent understanding of academics and the rapidly changing university and health care contexts. Reporting to the Dean and working closely and collaboratively with the other members of the Dean’s Leadership Team, the Director/ Assistant Dean provides academic, research, and administrative leadership in accordance with the principles of academic governance and is responsible for administrative, financial, and human resources management of the School. The Director/Assistant Dean will promote excellence in research, education, and professional activity.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in research, education, and academic administrative leadership, with experience ensuring high quality education programs. Success in establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with a diverse array of stakeholders is essential. A previous academic appointment in a School/Department of Physiotherapy with a graduate education program is desirable, as is interest in and experience developing interprofessional collaborations and interdisciplinary research initiatives. To be eligible, candidates will have a PhD (or equivalent research degree) in a relevant discipline. Eligibility for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapists is considered an asset.This five-year term position is expected to commence July 1, 2023 and may be renewed for a second five-year term. Eligible candidates are expected to be appointable in a tenure stream position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
