Ottawa – The Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) Board of Directors is delighted to announce the appointment of Allison Stene to the role of President.

Allison Stene first joined the Board as a Director in 2021 and was elected to this role for a second term at the CPA Annual General Meeting held on June 15, 2023. Allison has extensive experience in association governance and a long history of involvement with the CPA, including through her roles as President of the CPA National Student Assembly from 2006 to 2007 and President of the Saskatchewan Physiotherapy Association from 2011 to 2016.

Allison holds degrees in Biology and Physical Therapy from the University of Saskatchewan, as well as a Master of Rehabilitation Science degree from McMaster University. Her career has spanned both the public health and non-profit sectors, with the bulk of her career spent in public practice with a special interest in critical care.

Allison takes on the role of President at a critical time for the organization, which released its ambitious new 2023–2025 Strategic Plan earlier this year. The plan identifies advocacy, professional partnerships, and growth as key organizational priorities and defines a future state where the Association has leveraged the changing face of health care in Canada to increase access to physiotherapy.

“I am honoured to have been chosen to take on this new role, especially at this pivotal moment in the CPA’s future,” said Allison Stene, President, Canadian Physiotherapy Association. “As someone who had the opportunity to contribute to the development of the new CPA Strategic Plan 2023–2025, I know that it represents the culmination of extensive collaboration, thoughtful analysis, and a detailed understanding of the evolving landscape in which we practice, and I am deeply invested in ensuring its success. I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with CPA staff, volunteers, members, and partners to build on the momentum we have already created toward advancing physiotherapy in Canada and serving as a trusted authority and unified voice for the profession.”

CPA members and partners will have the opportunity to meet Allison and the rest of the CPA Board of Directors at this year’s CPA Congress event, which will be held from July 13–15, 2023, in Quebec City. Visit the Congress 2023 website for more information and details on how to register.
